The Hong Kong Aviation Forum welcomes the government's decision to suspend the route-specific flight suspension mechanism.
The Government today (7 July) has decided to suspend the route-specific flight suspension mechanism until further notice.
'The adjustment of inbound control measures is a further step forward for the aviation industry, following the recent adjustments', the spokesperson for the forum said.
'While the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has stated that travel is beginning to resemble pre-COVID levels, Hong Kong is one of the few places that require travellers to go through mandatory quarantine. After the fifth wave, our community has a high level of community immunity and vaccination, and resuming travel will not put additional strain on our health system, making the lengthy quarantine unjustifiable. Our competitors in the region have lifted all quarantine requirements and have nearly recovered to pre-COVID levels. The quarantine requirements had little effect on public health but severely harmed Hong Kong's international reputation. In order to maintain its international status, Hong Kong must open up and return to normalcy', the spokesperson added.
