The Hong Kong Aviation Forum welcomes the government's decision to shorten inbound hotel quarantine. The Government today (8 August) announced that it would reduce the quarantine in a designated hotel to three days, followed by four days of medical surveillance starting from 12 August. 'The adjustment of inbound control measures is a further step forward for the aviation industry. However, we are falling behind our competitors on the resumption of normal travel', the spokesperson for the forum said. 'While the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has stated that travel is beginning to resemble pre-COVID levels, Hong Kong is one of the few places that requires travellers to go through mandatory quarantine. Our community has a high level of community immunity and vaccination, and resuming travel will not put additional strain on our health system, making the lengthy quarantine unjustifiable. Our competitors in the region have lifted all quarantine requirements and have nearly recovered to pre-COVID levels. The quarantine requirements had little effect on public health but severely harmed Hong Kong's international reputation. In order to maintain its international status, Hong Kong must open up promptly and return to normalcy', the spokesperson added. ENDS
