Message by the Acting Head Administrator on the Ninth Anniversary of the Hong Kong Aviation Forum

Dear Members,

As we mark the ninth anniversary of the Hong Kong Aviation Forum, I am delighted to look back on the extraordinary progress we have made together over the past year.

Above all, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to every one of you. Your steadfast support, enthusiasm, and commitment have been central to our community’s continued growth and success.

The Industry

Hong Kong’s aviation industry has reached significant milestones throughout this year. At the beginning of the year, our flagship airline group, Cathay, successfully restored its operations to 100% of pre-pandemic flights. This was followed by another major achievement in June, as the Group reached the milestone of serving 100 global passenger destinations. By August, Cathay Group’s traffic figures had not only fully recovered but exceeded pre-pandemic levels, reaching new monthly highs.

Hong Kong has also further strengthened its position as an international aviation hub. In September, the city hosted Routes World 2025, the industry’s flagship route development event, welcoming aviation leaders from across the globe. This was followed in October by IATA’s third World Sustainability Symposium.

Looking at our infrastructure developments, Hong Kong International Airport reached a pivotal milestone as the expanded Terminal 2 commenced its first phase of operations with the opening of the Coach Hall in September.

The Community

The Forum itself continues to thrive and evolve. I am proud to share that our presence on Threads has surpassed 6,500 followers, a milestone achieved in just two years since our launch on the platform in July 2023.

We also introduced the refreshed HK Aviation Trivia, designed to both challenge and inform our community. Featuring 100 randomly sequenced questions, the quiz has resonated strongly with the community, attracting well over 2,000 responses to date.

Looking ahead

Looking ahead, I am thrilled to announce an upcoming rebranding that will shape our future. This evolution will redefine our identity and take us to even greater heights. Further details will be shared soon, so please stay tuned to this release centre and our social media channels for the announcement.
